The idea behind the cabinet design is the contrast of material. The interaction of wood and metal. The metal is dematerialized; powder coated white, to act in counterpoint to the more tactile wood. This is most evident at the drawer faces and the legs. At the faces, one can read the 1/16" aluminum panel as an additional layer of the plywood, its thickness only evident when looking at the drawer from above. The transition of material at the base is articulated such that the transition from steel to wood is as subtle as possible, the wood mirroring the steel's dimension and rounded detail. All drawers are activated with push latches, the act of which engages the user with the aluminum, its smooth texture reinforcing that it is fundamentally different from the wood case.
