Theoretically cutting Hal Box studio at six feet and redesigning the room for current and future studio use. This project focused mainly on the interior of the space and the students that would inhabit. The introduction of a vault was an effort to generate light for the studio in a way that highlighted the Charles Moore mural and effects the room as the day wears on. The extra height also opens the space that allows a raised platform and to cap the 1980’s addition with something that differentiates the new construction.
A two level platform is introduced to accommodate studios, with the lower level focusing as a studio space and the upper level for group discussions or as a larger working space. The steps leading up form a circular space with amphitheater seating, allowing for presentations, lecture, or seminars to take place within the studio.
